Seven people dead in the attack of suicide bomber on a bus with Israeli tourists at Burgas Airport in Bulgaria
The explosion which rocked the bus at airport’s parking lot caused severe injuries to several other people and two other neighboring buses burned

Terror on a bus with Israeli tourists at Burgas Airport /Sarafovo/ in Bulgaria was apparently carried out by a suicide bomber, reports National Information Agency of Bulgaria /BTA/ and the Bulgarian press, also quoted by Israeli public television. According to Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, the explosion was caused by a bomb placed in the baggage compartment of the bus.
A total of 33 people were hospitalized after the blast, three of them critical, and one of those three dying shortly after that, Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov told bTV Wednesday night, about 2.5 hours after the explosion. The bus driver, who is Bulgarian, is also in a critical condition, he said.
Seven people have been reported dead in the attack so far but the death toll might increase.The explosion which rocked the bus at airport’s parking lot in the Bulgarian resort of Burgas, caused severe injuries to several other people.
According to Bulgarian National Radio /BNR/ and television BNT, also station bTV, two other neighboring buses burned in the same incident. The authorities have announced that the explosion is the result of a terrorist act.
According to Bulgarian media, the Israeli tourists travelled by an Air Via airplane from Tel Aviv and arrived at Burgas airport at 16.50 local time (13:50 GMT). From the airport, the tourists boarded the bus and were scheduled to go to their hotels in the Sunny Beach resort on the Bulgarian coast of the Black Sea, reported BTA.
About 40 Israeli people were on board when the blast on the bus occurred.
Israel’s Channel 10 station claimed that the attack showed a combination of gunshots and explosives in front of Burgas airport.
The attack is expected to lead to modification of flight schedules from Israel to Europe. According to Israel Airports Authority, delays are expected in departures from Ben Gurion International Airport, and urged people to stay in touch with flight operators concerning the modifications.
Accordig to Haarez.com, the Israeli tour company, “Kavei Hufsha,” responsible for the trip to Burgas released a statement in the aftermath of the deadly blast:
“In accordance with the information that we have received from our local representative in Burgus, an explosion took place on a bus which drove our tourists near the airport. We have sent our representatives to the airport as well as to the nearby hospital in order to provide any assistance. At the same time, we are sending our representatives from Israel on the first flight which is set to leave after midnight”.
Today also in Burgas Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Bulgaria Simeon Djankov met the new president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti and his team. In the boardroom of Burgas they were introduced by the Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov with the project for modernization of urban transport in the district town.
